[Aug. 26th, 2008|02:16 pm] |
Here's a rare plug from me for some fantastic Twilight artwork. nami86 did a fabulous drawing of The Fab Four: Emmett, Alice, Rosalie, and Jasper. Her lines are so clean and her style is very striking, not to mention that she really knows how to dress her vampires. I love her work. Take a look and leave her some comments!
The page it came from is here, where she's got some other art - a stunning Heath Ledger as The Joker and a Ron/Hermione - and some icons as well. Show her some love! :D |

| [ | mood |
| | homesick | ] | I have been having an extreme case of homesickness the past few days. It’s very lonely to go from family trip mode-where my sisters, mother, aunt, cousins, and various husbands and boyfriends are all vacationing together in a big beautiful house- to going to an unfamiliar city and having none of those people. I am staying with my best friend Amber in Boston which is very fun but it is unbelievably hard to be so separated from my family when I just had such an awesome (although fleeting) week of all of my favorites living together.
The trip itself was far from harmonious, don’t get me wrong. There were at least 4 major freak outs/ crying fits from stupid misunderstandings (too many strong-minded women under one roof, me thinks) but over all it was totally the best. I hate that all of my favorite people live on different corners of the country. I just spent a great summer with my sister Gwen in New York. After Boston I am going to visit the other sister, Heath, in Oregon (Hoorah!). But that means have to leave Gwen! Ahhhh! It makes me want to cry right now. :*( Not to mention my momma still in Florida.
Oh, I forgot to mention, My 19 year old cat, Snowball passed away while we were in Maine. She had cancer and died in her sleep. Nineteen is a good life and I am glad she died peacefully. But I still miss her and wish I had been there. Now I am in Boston and my cat George in New York is sick again. I hope he gets better because I don’t think I can handle losing another pet from long distance in such a short time period. Especially without family support system surrounding me.
And to top it all off, I miss Matt something fierce. We are pretty good at handling separation. This summer while he was in Florida and I was in New York, we handled it very well I think. Not to mention all last year when we were living 5 hours away and might as well have been in different states. But having him again all to myself for the week of vacation was such a tease! I miss him more than ever! I am seriously dying with missing that kid. I know he is in grad school and it is impossibly for us to be together right now, but it still makes me lonely. And I don’t even know what is going to happen when he graduates. What if I am happily settled out west then? What if he gets a job somewhere I don’t want to live? Long distance relationships suck. Seriously folks. So does growing up.
On a happy note, I love Amber and she is the best. Today we are going to the Museum of Fine Arts. She has school auditions Wednesday so we can’t really do too much crazy stuff until after those are over but when they are, we are totally doing every touristy thing this town has to offer. And drinking copiously. And being generally silly and marvelous everywhere we venture. Expect some ridiculous pictures from our trip to Salem.
Thanks livejournal for giving me a place to vent. I feel better already.
And on a happier note, have you watched these? Because they are hilarious and you should. Not to mention they are timelessly timeless... |

The first day is now completed. And it wasn't half bad.
I only got lost one, and a nice Coach led me the way to the classroom in the back near to boiler room that can only be the place of choice for my Health class (Not my choice to take, trust me).
But, I'm already piled with homework. An essay on my favorite author (Guess who?), a ten-page packet for Algebra, and a bunch of crap to get signed by my parents.
It's hard to get back into the swing of waking up at 5:30 and sleeping at 10:00ish.
I like it though. I like getting into the routine of being busy and relentlessly exhausted and learning. |

It's very short, probably only a couple hundred words, and it's about Remus coming home from a mission just to visit Grimmauld, and he's badly hurt. Naturally, Tonks is there to help him, and I believe in the end she kissed him and says, "Not everything has to hurt, Remus" or something of that nature. Thanks very much! :D |

Have a blinding too-much-work-and-not-enough-LJ headache, so I've pinched this meme from bazcat89:
1. Pick 10 20 of your favorite movies 2. Go to IMDB and find a quote from each movie 3. Post them here for everyone to guess 4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie 5. No googling, using IMDB search, or other search functions.
( Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey. )
Am I doing this just so I can use some of my new film icons? Er, maybe ;).
And also, a very happy birthday to the ever cool corallianjedi2, the ever lovely eril_87 and the ever sexy silentscream821. I hope you all have lovely days ♥.

ETA: wow, you guys know your films, lol. Next time, I'm going to have to be about 200% more obscure. Hopefully I got most people's names in the right places.... |

My cousin's 17 year old son, Jonathan, was shot to death last night as he road his bike under a freeway overpass. There are no witnesses but it was most likely gang-related, even tho' he was not a gang member. This happens almost daily in Los Angeles and it makes me sad and angry each time but now it's personal and I'm pissed. What is it going to take to stop the gangs, road-rage driver or disgruntled ex-employee? Is it even possible? Many people want the right to carry concealed weapons, thinking this will protect them, but that just scares me even more. Having one in the house is even more terrifying.

[Aug. 20th, 2008|08:44 am] |
The release date for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has been delayed until July 16th 2009.
Honestly, though, they don't need the extra money that summer film seem to be promising these days. Every single Harry Potter fan on the face of the frickin Earth will go see it, regardless of which season it's released. That's approximately 876384753875834750375 fans. And that should be enough for everyone involved to get their hands on a nice sum of pay, righto?
And why did they have to tease us with that trailer?
Why, Warner Bros., why?

This is for hrymfaxe, who requested Charlie and eclipse. While fiddling around with the middle of the usual drabble turned fic, which was/is currently being annoying, I thought I'd have a go at an actual 100 word one as I haven't got anywhere near so far. But the longer one will be appearing when it decides to behave, in case you're thinking, "Hang on, everyone else got about 500+ words!" :)
I've got behind on reading everyone else's, due to last week being a complete waste for various reasons. So, hopefully, will be on the catch-up trail shortly. Of course, I've never said anything like that before...

| Transfigured Hearts #10: In Sickness |
[Aug. 17th, 2008|08:22 pm] |
Title: In Sickness Author: mrstater Rating & Warnings: PG-13 for innuendo Format & Word Count: one-shot, 7880 words Summary: Tenth in the Transfigured Hearts series: Remus at last gives in to Tonks' request to help him after the full moon, but when she sees him at his lowest, it's more than Remus bargained for. Will he push her away for the last time, or does their relationship still have a chance? Author's Notes: Yet another revision, which has been a very long time in coming! This story follows Recurring Problem and was one of the main ones that always bugged me a bit, probably because I wrote the whole series out of order; Remus' behavior always seemed to come rather out of the blue in this one, so I wrote an opening scene to hopefully give it some context. (The original is here for any parties interested in comparing versions.) Many thanks to the lovely godricgal for enthusiastically betaing and helping me sort out the sticky issue of making a narrative shift from Tonks to Dora. (And encouraging me to get this project finished, lol.)

So very slowly, I've been making some icons, mostly just experimenting with PhotoShop Elements. Some are better than others, but I've managed to build up 35 icons, and I've decided to share. :)
Ranging from Stargate SG-1 to Batman to a quote from Craig Ferguson, they're pretty much just a medley of random inspirations.
Some of the bases I included - mostly it was a case of remembering to save them separately. Alter them if you wish. Credit is appreciated but not required; I'm a writer, not an artist, so I don't much mind unless it's written material. ;)

I downloaded Monopoly on Wednesday night, and during our Team Meeting yesterday which basically became off-the-phone time, me and a few work buddies played it! It was fun!
Now I'm downloading Scrabble and... Sonic the Hedgehog. XD They say that Sonic is difficult to control, but that's just a bonus since the game is so easy now. As for Scrabble.... Well, I'm never allowed to play that one when the board is broken out! <.< Everyone wants me to be the judge/helper. "Psst! What can I do with these?" "That's cheating!" "You did it last turn!" lol I suppose they assume I'd be good at it?? I can't imagine how considering I've only played once a long time ago and won by beginner's luck!
And now... I must get dressed for work. At least today is jeans day. :) |

| Basic Accounts, India, and LiveJournal Inc. |
[Aug. 14th, 2008|04:59 pm] |
Development Goals and Basic Accounts Last week we updated our development goals for 2008. Generally we noted a number of cool enhancements and investments to LiveJournal that we are working on, including improved search, usability, and site development.
We also wanted to let you know how we hope to accomplish all these things, and how we plan on paying for them. In order to accomplish our stated goals for this year and beyond, we need to increase the revenue gained from both groups of LiveJournal accounts: paid subscription accounts and ad-supported accounts. As of August 28th, all users will be able to choose to downgrade their account to Basic through their Manage Account page. Additionally, we will start showing advertising to visitors who are not logged in to LiveJournal when they are looking at Basic Account journals and communities.
Basic Account users themselves will not see ads on any Basic journal or community while they are logged in to their account. If you want more information about this, take a look at our new post on lj_2008 where we outline our reasoning.
Indian Flash Fiction Contest In other news, we are excited to tell you we've launched "Quick Tales" LiveJournal's first initiative for users in India, in celebration of India Independence day, August 15th. "Quick Tales" is a flash fiction writing contest in which we're partnering with Caferati.com, one of India's largest online literary communites. The contest's winners will receive some great prizes and it is open to anyone with a mailing address in India. We hope that users with an interest in Indian writing or just India will watch LiveJournal's india_writing community. That's where the finalists and winners will be announced, so keep an eye on it towards the end of September! If you're in India then enter the contest - if your story is slick and quick (under 500 words) then you could be the lucky winner!
Meanwhile, back at LiveJournal Inc. We have updated and redesigned our corporate site. The goal of the redesign was twofold: first, to update the look and feel (Dystopia users will appreciate it!); second, we want to provide a destination for prospective employees, partners, and members of the press where they can access important information about the company. Kudos to our design team. |

[Aug. 14th, 2008|09:33 pm] |
Knackering day today, but I just posted fic and ergo I'm here with my eyes propped open with matchsticks to pimp it ;). It's called Defeated, and I could dress it up and tell you what it's about, but basically it's Edward/Bella smut. Or almost smut. I'm never quite sure where the line is but I'm pretty sure I never really cross it, because I am lame.
Anyway, when I was trying to think of a title, the words Every Loser Wins popped into my head, shortly followed by the thought that they sounded a little bit too familiar to be entirely my own doing. With a little bit of poking, my brain came up with a riff, which in my head sounded like some kind of old crooning country rock ballad, Neil Young or Johnny Cash or something. Perfect, I thought. Neat title, cool reference. But because it was bugging me that I couldn't quite remember how it went, I looked it up, and it's not Neil Young at all. Or Johnny Cash. It is, in fact, this spectacular piece of soft-focus 80s tat by, of all people, the soap star Nick Berry:
See, kids? It always pays to Google it. Of course if anyone wants to imagine Edward in some nice pale stone-wash denim, be my guest. And I think we can all agree that now we've seen this vid, it's Gaspard who? Robert who? Nick Berry is my Edward.
Earlier I also signed up for The Oscar Wilde Appreciation Multi-Fandom Fanfic Challenge, because seriously, how could I not? Pick your fandom, pick your pairing, pick an awesome Oscar quote. It's all fandoms, so really there's no excuse not to come and join me. Do it do it do it now. |
